Karakasa Obake
The umbrella monster.  It sits in a corner for years, ignored and forgotten.  So at night he opens his eye, stretches his arms and leg, and wags his lengthy tongue.  He just wants to have a good time.

Since I'm a big fan of Maneki Neko (beckoning cat or lucky cat) I had to make a Nyokai version!  This is also a bit of a pun image too.  Since Maneki Neko almost always have coins called "koban."  So everytime it rains, it rains...koban from heaven..."

As a b-day present for me, my hubby sculpted him in polymer clay.  See it here.
The first little sketch in my Nyokai series. Here, two little kittens caught in the rain are rescued by a couple of Karakasa who were out for a stroll. And while his girlfriend keeps them dry, the boy tries to ease the younger kitten's fears. *coloured pencil*

Nurikabe
This wall monster usually uses its massive size and power of invisibility to confuse and trap foot travelers...  He is a prominent character in Mizuki Shigeru's manga (and anime) Ge Ge Ge no Kitarou.

The neko version likes to help kittens cross the road. And true...he doesn't really need the sign as his body could stop any oncoming traffic. He just enjoys holding signs. Makes him feel purry.
